In the far future, there are only 200 human beings left - but they've not lost their thirst for war and use use genetically-engineered slave animals to fight their battles instead.

In Paul Cornell and Matt "D'Israeli" Brooker's XTNCT, a Tyrannosaurus, a Deinonychus, a living tree, a Pterosaur, and a Triceratops lead a vast army controlled by Father, the ruler of mankind. When a mission goes awry, Father orders them to kill themselves - but rather than accept their fate, they instead vow to wipe out the scourge of humanity once and for all.
