2000 AD at Thought Bubble 2017!

Here’s a thought, Earthlets – make sure you’re in Leeds this weekend for two days of Thrill-powered comics action at Thought Bubble!
It’s a new date and a new location for the Thought Bubble convention – the show is shifting from the Royal Armouries to Leeds city centre, with events spread out over several sites in and around Millennium Square.
You’ll find 2000 AD in the Town Hall Marquee at Tables 5-6 with a selection of the latest graphic novels, some golden oldies, plus some spiffy merchandise!
And don’t forget that 2000 AD opens Thought Bubble 2017 with two very special events – the special exhibition event to mark Zarjaz! An Art Tribute to 40 Years of 2000 AD show and The 2000 AD Juve Cube, a ghafflebette evening of music and live painting in one of Leeds’ top hotspots!

At Tables 5-6 in the Town Hall Marquee Tharg the Mighty will be playing host to John Reppion & Leah Moore (1pm-2pm, Saturday & Sunday) Ian Edginton & D’Israeli (1.30pm-2.30pm, Sunday) as well as Rufus Dayglo and INJ Culbard. Checked the posted schedules at the tables for final details!

Vice Press Presents Zarjaz! An Art Tribute to 40 Years of 2000 AD

Throughout September, Vice Press present a truly staggering display of original tribute art and limited edition prints from the finest art droids to grace the pages of 2000 AD. Not only that, but the exhibition will feature the rare opportunity to witness some of contemporary comics’ biggest names deliver their own takes on classic 2000 AD characters. A must for posters and graphic art collectors, all the unique work on display will be available to add to your collection. Ahead of the two-day Thought Bubble Comic Convention, Vice Press and 2000 AD will be hosting a special Thought Bubble Exhibition Event at The Gallery at Munro House which will be attended by the cream of the participating artists and will include a bar as well as a few memorable surprises and highly exclusive releases. Vice Press Presents: Zarjaz! An Art Tribute to 40 Years of 2000 AD will be on display at The Gallery at Munro House on Duke Street, Leeds from September 1st to September 30th 2017.

The official after-party of the opening of Vice Press Presents: Zarjaz! An Art Tribute to 40 Years of 2000 AD! The 2000 AD Juve Cube is a riotous night of celebration featuring live music comes courtesy of Cowtown, Reg Jula (DJ), Hank Haint and Forktail! Plus live painting from art droids Simon Davis, Fraser Irving, D’Israeli, Crom, Mark Penman, John Pearson and Bobbi Abbey – all hosted by Jason Atomic! For 2000 AD fans, it’s the perfect way to kick off the UK’s finest comic and sequential arts convention weekend! The party runs from 8:30pm to late at Belgrave Music Hall & Canteen in Leeds City Centre and is supported by the Leeds Art University Students Union. Tickets are extremely limited, for over 18s only, and attendees to The 2000 AD Juve Cube will receive an exclusive Vice Press mini-print upon presenting their Juve Cube ticket at Zarjaz! An Art Tribute to 40 Years of 2000 AD.

2000 AD Writing Competition

So you want to write for 2000 AD? Bravo, Earthlet – but dare you put your idea to the test in the Theatre of Thrills? Future Shocks have not only been a staple of 2000 AD since 1977 but have forged some of its greatest writing talents, including Alan Moore and Grant Morrison! Writers are being invited to pitch their ideas for a brand new Future Shock to a panel of our top script droids on the Saturday at Thought Bubble – but they have just two minutes to make their case! This year’s panel will feature the luminescent talent of:

- Al Ewing (Zombo, Avengers)
- Andy Diggle (The Losers, James Bond)
- Matt Smith (editor, 2000 AD)

Want to be the next great artist to draw Judge Dredd? Then take this opportunity to have your art seen by one of the world’s best-known publishers by entering the 2000 AD Art Challenge! To enter the challenge, draw your version of a set Terror Tale script, bring it to the portfolio session on the Saturday of Thought Bubble, and you could wind up winning paid work at 2000 AD! Competition entries must be submitted in person at the 2000 AD table in the Leeds Town Hall Marquee. A convention pass will be needed to gain entry.

Many have tried to make it into the hallowed pages of the Galaxy’s Greatest comic, most have failed, but the winner of this year’s 2000 AD portfolio competition will be joining the likes of Dave Gibbons, Jock, Mick McMahon, Brian Bolland and Mark Buckingham! This year we have the ultimate prize – the winner of the portfolio session will get the chance to illustrate a Future Shock in 2000 AD! Join the ranks of the biggest names in British comic books by getting a paid strip from Tharg the Mighty! Come along and see which of the portfolio review entries wins this amazing prize as Tharg’s art droids provide live critique on the best of the comics submitted!
