Judge Dredd Megazine 440 is OUT NOW, with more thrills abound from Dredd, Diamond Dogs, Death Cap, Surfer and Lawless!

MEG 440 out now

Judge Dredd Megazine 440 is out now!

We trust you all had an enjoyable Xmas – though at the time of writing, another lockdown was in the offing, so who knows where we’ll be once this issue comes out – and the new Meg line-up suitably energised your Thrill-circuits.

It’s more of the same this month as we’ve got the stunning second parts of Death Cap, Surfer, Diamond Dogs III and Lawless, plus a new Dredd thriller starts in the shape of Praise Zort! by Rory McConville and Staz Johnson, picking up the storyline in the aftermath of last year’s Project Providence, where Mega-City One was caught red-handed using time-travel tech to steal the march on other nations. Chief Judge Logan is going to need all the support he can muster to avoid sanctions, and unfortunately that means seeking the approval of the eccentric Profundians…

Big news for this Meg is the start of the Hawk the Slayer sequel by the stellar creative team of Garth Ennis and Henry Flint, which revisits the characters and world from the cult eighties fantasy movie. This five-issue arc will be bagged with every Megazine, so make sure you stick around for some truly eye-popping sword n’ sorcery action, citizens – you won’t be disappointed!

MEG 435 out now

Judge Dredd Megazine 435 is out now!

If you’re a subscriber you may have received this on Saturday 14 August (another good reason, of course, to have your Thrill-power delivered direct to your door), in which case there’s just enough time to remind you that it’s Free Comic
Book Day on the 14th, moved from its usual May slot because of the pandemic.

As usual, lots of freebies to be snaffled from the participating comic stores, including another special 2000 AD issue, which features the opening chapters of Rob Williams and Si Fraser’s Hershey: Disease and Mike Carroll and John Higgins’ Dreadnoughts: Breaking Ground (ahead of their imminent graphic-novel collections) as well as a corking all-new Judge Dredd six-page story from Al Ewing and Caspar Wijngaard.

If you miss FCBD, these issues can usually be picked up online, but the initiative is intended to encourage in-store shopping, and Thrill-merchants, like most retailers, could do with your support in the wake of a devastating eighteen months.

Meanwhile, in this Meg, we’ve got more Dredd, Devlin Waugh, Diamond Dogs, The Returners and Angelic plus chats with artists Steve Roberts and Lee Sullivan. Enjoy!

MEG 434 out now

Judge Dredd Megazine 434 is out now!

As well as working as a warning about a future society being ruled by a militarised polise force, the Judge Dredd strip has also presented a twenty-second century in which the planet is irrevocably scarred by nuclear war and environmental collapse.

The Cursed Earth is an irradiated wasteland, the Black Atlantic polluted to the point where any life within it isseverely mutated, and most produce is now synthetically created. It’s a bleak vision of a post-apocalyptic Earth, and if we want to stop it becoming a reality we all need to play a part in preventing climate change.

Paul Goodenough’s Rewriting Extinction project is the latest to draw attention to the crisis with a massive comic-book populated by three hundred writers, artists, activists and film-makers, from Alan Moore to Ricky Gervais. You can find out more about the initiative within this Meg.

Elsewhere, we have the return of Gordon Rennie and Lee Carter’s Angel Gang reimagining Angelic, plus Dredd, Devlin Waugh, Diamond Dogs and The Returners, plus interviews with two writers from very different publishing eras – 2000 AD and Action sub-editor Roy Preston, and up-and-comer Ram V. Enjoy!

The latest Dark Judges epic Deliverance comes to its thrilling finale this issue, suitably marked by another spectacular wraparound cover by series artist Nick Percival.

Elsewhere, we have the start of a new Judge Dredd story, Project Providence, by Rory McConville and Staz Johnson, picking up on plot threads from last year’s The Fugitive, plus there’s the latest instalments of Devlin Waugh, Diamond Dogs and The Returners.

In addition, we have a chat with the creative teams behind this summer’s pair of specials – Alec Worley and Dani spill the beans on Black Beth and the Devils of Al-Kadesh, a fantasy saga featuring the character that sprang out of Scream!, which hits the racks at the end of this month; and Mike Carroll, Maura McHugh and Liam Johnson reveal all about the 2021 2000 AD Sci-Fi Special, out 7 July, a Dreddverse-centric collection of tales linked by over-arching narrative.

On a final note, we were saddened to hear last month that Dave Evans had died. Often credited as Bolt-01, he was the editor of 2000 AD fanzines Zarjaz, Dogbreath and Futurequake, and a friendly and enthusiastic regular at conventions. He’ll be much missed. RIP, Bolt.
