In February 2017, 2000 AD celebrated four decades of cutting edge comics at the 40 Years of Thrill-power Festival in London and we are proud to give you a front row seat for panels with some of the best creators in comics today…

Current and longest-serving 2000 AD editor Matt Smith hosted former ‘Thargs’ Andy Diggle, Steve MacManus and Richard Burton on a panel which lifts the lid on the goings-on behind-the-scenes at the Command Module.

From smashing deadlines to cajoling creators, they’re the behind-the-scenes droids who make sure 2000 AD lands on time every week. For the first time these four iconic editors meet together on one panel to talk about their experience of being at the helm of the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic.

After leaving 2000 AD, Robin Smith went on to work across the comics industry – even missing out on playing a part in prog rock history – and with writers John Wagner and Alan Grant he created the comedy noir series The Bogie Man.

As art editor in the early 1980s, Robin Smith played a big part in making 2000 AD look its best during its first ‘golden age’. From providing cover roughs for artists to designing marketing material, from deciding on cover blurbs to helping bring new talent to the page, Robin helped confirm 2000 AD‘s place as the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic.

In a two-part interview, Molch-R spoke to Robin about his time at 2000 AD, some of the fun and games behind the scenes, and what happens when a whole portfolio of art goes missing!
