JUDGE DREDD // An Honest Man / Part Four!

Mega-City One, 2144 AD. Home to over 180 million citizens, this urban hell is situated along the east coast of post-apocalyptic North America. Crime is rampant and only the Judges — empowered to dispense instant justice — can stop total anarchy. Toughest of them all is JUDGE DREDD — he is the Law! Now, Kyle Asher is a former Judge, sent to Titan twenty years ago for beating a citizen to death, but is working as an auxiliary…

Script: John Tomlinson / Art: Steven Austin / Letters: Simon Bowland

FUTURE SHOCKS // School Run

Out in the vast reaches of the universe, there are an infinite number of stories waiting to be told. These cautionary tales pass from traveller to traveller in the spaceports and around campfires on distant planets, acquiring the status of legend, their shocking ends a salutory lesson in hubris. Anything is possible in these twisted trips into the galaxy’s dark side. Abandon your preconceptions, and expect the unexpected…

Script: Guy Adams / Art: Jimmy Broxton / Letters: Jim Campbell

HOPE // In The Shadows / Reel One – Part Eight!

An alternate 1940s USA. WWII is over, victory having been secured by occult means, and consequently magic is a part of everyday life. Mallory HOPE is one such skilled operative, though calling on the dark arts takes its toll on the user. He’s also a P.I., hired for all manner of down n’ dirty jobs, and being based in Los Angeles means he’s often involved in the movie business — and a film production appears cursed…

Script: Dan Abnett / Art: INJ Culbard / Letters: Simon Bowland

BRINK // Mercury Retrograde / Part Fourteen!

The late 21st century, and through environmental catastrophe and industrial overload Earth has been reduced to a wasteland. Mankind finally evacuated the planet in 2072 and millions were housed in a number of deep-space Habitats. But life on these cramped, overcrowded stations is tense, often spilling over into madness. Sects are rife, and both the Habitat Security Division and certain journalists are investigating…

Script: Ian Edginton / Art: Tiernen Trevallion / Letters: Annie Parkhouse

FIENDS OF THE EASTERN FRONT // 1963 / Part Eleven!

In 1980, the diary of German soldier Hans Schmitt was discovered in Berlin, detailing events that occurred in 1941, when he encountered the terrifying vampire Captain Constanta and his Romanian platoon. But Schmitt was not the first trooper to meet Constanta — the vampire was on the Western Front too, in France in 1916. Now, in 1963, the bloodsucking creature was working in East Berlin — but he was betrayed…

OUT NOW: Judge Dredd Megazine 444

Judge Dredd Megazine 444 is OUT NOW, with more thrills abound from Dredd, Diamond Dogs, Death Cap, Surfer and Lawless!

MEG 444 out now

Judge Dredd Megazine 444 is out now!

A couple of endings this issue as John Wagner and Colin MacNeil’s high-speed series Surfer reaches the finale of its first arc, and we have the climax of Garth Ennis and Henry Flint’s Hawk the Slayer mini-series. This isn’t the last of the Ennis droid we’ll be seeing in the House of Tharg, however, as there’s the small matter of the Battle-Action Special coming out later this year, featuring an amazing line-up of artists including Kevin O’Neill, John Higgins and more, and he’ll also be doing a bit of retro-fun for the Xmas prog. Henry will also be back in the prog in September for a project that promises to be mind-blowing!

Elsewhere, Dredd heads to the remains of the Atlantis tunnel complex after the events of last year’s The Hard Way to deal with rogue A.I. Qaganon in Q-topia by Arthur Wyatt and Ian Richardson, plus there’s the latest instalments of Death Cap and Lawless, and the penultimate part of Diamond Dogs.

A great many writers and artists come forward to pay tribute to Garry Leach, who sadly died in March, in Stephen Jewell’s obituary, and Karl Stock chats with SinDex artist Tazio Bettin and takes a look at the 2000 AD 45th Anniversary Art Book, out this month!

BORAG THUNGG, EARTHLETS – Prog 2281 is OUT NOW!

After last week’s ghafflebette all-ages takeover courtesy of Tharg’s nephew Joko-Jargo, it’s back to business as (un)usual here in the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic, and alongside the latest instalments of Hope, Fiends of the Eastern Front and Brink, we’ve got two zarjaz new thrillers — Ken Niemand and Tom Foster reunite on the Dredd story An Honest Man, the follow-up to 2021’s A Penitent Man, which saw disgraced former Judge Kyle Asher attempt to reintegrate into Mega-City society; and the Abnett and Bettin droids return for the next chapter in the Bulletopia saga as Dexter and co flee from the Downlode A.I.!

As ever in Tharg’s emerald empire, there’s new books being released all the time, and the publication of the second Thistlebone GN is being marked by a signing at Gosh Comics in London on 14 May from 1-2pm with Tom Eglington and Simon Davis.

Also at Gosh on 11 June Garth Ennis will be signing copies of the new Battle Action Special from 1-2pm alongside artists Mike Dorey, John Higgins and Sally Jane Hurst, and you can catch the Ennis-bot at the Enniskillen Comicfest in N. Ireland too on 18 June!

Elsewhere, we’ve got the final part of current Dredd thriller Praise Zort, the penultimate instalment of Surfer, and all the latest action in Brit-Cit, Badrock and the Cursed Earth in Diamond Dogs, Lawless and Death Cap.

Now, in 1963, the bloodsucking creature is in East Berlin – and has just escaped Baba Yaga…

HOPE // In The Shadows / Reel One – Part Three!

Script: Arthur Wyatt / Art & Letters: Pye Parr

For stomach upsets, future technology has developed nano-robots called INTESTINAUTS, who fight parasites in the gut. But this squad of Intestinauts have lost the upload signal, and must cross a fatberg…

BORAG THUNGG, EARTHLETS – Prog 2277 is OUT NOW!

We bid you galactic greetings, Terrans, as we unleash another salvo of circuit-shattering Thrills, precision-engineered to energise your imaginations.

There’s more Apocalypse War action in Judge Dredd, gut-busting drama in Intestinauts, Hollyweird chills in Hope, supernatural intrigue in Fiends of the Eastern Front, and fear and unease on the final frontier in Brink — a line-up, we’re sure you’ll agree, that is positively swimming in zarjazosity!

Alas, some sad news reached the Command Module just hours before this issue was beamed to the print-bots, and that was that art-droid Garry Leach had died on 26 March, aged sixy-seven. An incredibly skilled artist, his scrotnig work on The V.C.s — alternating with Cam Kennedy — was expertly textured, and he drew some stunning Dredd episodes, including Night of the Bloodbeast, Attack of the 50-ft Woman, and Ten Years On, which saw the return of Prog 2’s villain Whitey a decade later. He did great work outside of the GGC, of course, including co-creating the new Marvelman with Alan Moore for Warrior, amongst others. RIP, Garry.
