OUT NOW: 2000 AD Prog #2141

BORAG THUNGG, EARTHLETS!

Welcome to your weekly Thrillsplosion that is 2000 AD, the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic!

She’s back — that gnarly old psychopath SJS Judge Pin returns this prog for new Judge Dredd thriller Control by Rob Williams and Chris Weston.

Last seen in The Fields (Progs 2035-2036) and Fit for Purpose (Progs 2073- 2074), Pin — who murders Judges that fall short of her standards — was instrumental in ensuring Dredd’s ally Gerhart took the Long Walk into the Cursed Earth, and now she’s made Ol’ Stoney-Face himself her next target, believing him to be not worthy of the badge. Dredd, of course, has his own suspicions about Pin… and so the scene is set for a showdown between the pair.

Needless to say, Terrans, you won’t want to miss a single episode of this ghafflebette story, so ensure your local Thrill-merchant has your 2000 AD reserved for you every Wednesday — or better yet, head over to shop.2000AD.com and take out a sub, where the Galaxy’s Greatest will be delivered direct to your door!

Elsewhere in this pulse-pounding prog, there’s more transdimensional weirdness in Indigo Prime, rural terrors in Thistlebone, and psychic shenanigans in Anderson, Psi-Division — while in Absalom, Harry draws closer to his goal. Will he succeed in rescuing his grandkids? Who will survive the grand finale? Find out in a fortnight!

2000 AD Prog #2142 is out now from all good newsagents and comic book stores, plus digitally from our webshop and apps! Don’t forget that if you buy an issue of 2000 AD in the first week of its release then postage in the UK is free!

NEW THRILL! England, 2019. The secluded rural village of Harrowvale holds a dark past — that years earlier, on a farm bordering the vast tracts of woodland, it hosted a cult that was seeking to escape civilisation and find purity in the old ways, namely worshipping an ancient deity called THISTLEBONE. Led by the charismatic Jasper Hillman, their pagan beliefs grew ever more radical to the point where they held the young Avril Eason captive with the intention of sacrificing her. Wizard Ablard, ork Crixus and dryad Princess Yarrow believe they may have the means to stop them — not least because Crixus can somehow conjure the Ebora, the world-spirit. Having been visited by a manifestation of the Ebora, Crixus now plans to unite the races…

Look out for the zarjaz collected volume coming your way in September, complete with a spiffy new cover from the Flint art-bot)!

There’s also more zarjaz action from Scarlet Traces and the action is ramping up in more Kingmaker.

Alas, we must wave farewell to sharp-dressed shuggy champion Max Normal this week as his scrotnig story comes to a close, but make sure you’re back here in seven days for the start of chilling new folk-horror series Thistlebone by T.C. Eglington and Simon Davis.

When Avril escaped capture by a cult that worshipped the eponymous woodland entity, and the perpetrators were locked away, she thought her nightmare was over — but the Thistlebone myth is one that seemingly is not going to die easily…

Don’t miss it, Terrans!

JUDGE DREDD // PETS

By Rob Williams (w) Henry Flint (a) Gary Caldwell (c) Annie Parkhouse (l)

Mega-City One, 2141 AD. Home to over 130 million citizens, this urban hell is situated along the east coast of post-apocalyptic North America. Crime is rampant, and only the Judges — empowered to dispense instant justice — can stop total anarchy. Toughest of them all is JUDGE DREDD — he is the Law! Last year, Dredd, with help from Judges Giant and Maitland, took down Justice Dept operative Smiley. But not without cost…

SCARLET TRACES // HOME FRONT

Ian Edginton (w) D’Israeli (a) Ellie De Ville (l)

1968. It is decades since Mars waged war on Earth, and the major nations have access to Martian-derived technology, but Britain is still recovering from Martian bombardment in the 1940s, when much of the south of England was destroyed. This was followed by the arrival in the 1950s of two million Venusians, seeking refuge from Martian occupation. Now, the Martians have weaponised the sun, and are on the attack…

TERROR TALES // THE QUILLI COMMITTEE

Laura Bailey (w) David Hitchcock (a) Annie Parkhouse (l)

Experience the terrifying side of Thrill-power with these one-off tales from beyond the veil of sanity. Whether they be ghostly goings-on that send shivers up the spine or splatterfests that sear the  retina, nothing is what it seems in these glimpses of a realm beyond our own. Ventriloquist Jerry Reginaldo claimed to be channelling an ancient god called Quilli through his puppet. Now it’s gained a cult-like following…

KINGMAKER // OUROBOROS

Ian Edginton (w) Leigh Gallagher (a) Ellie De Ville (l)

The people of the Nine Kingdoms may have defeated Ichnar the Wraith King to live in relative peace and harmony, but they hadn’t reckoned on the Thorn — a race of aliens that occupied their world with the intention of strip-mining its magic. Wizard Ablard, ork Crixus and dryad Princess Yarrow believe they may have the means to stop them — not least because Crixus can somehow manifest the Ebora, the world-spirit…

MAX NORMAL // HOW THE MAX GOT HIS STRIPES

Guy Adams (w) Dan Cornwell (a) Jim Boswell (c) Simon Bowland (l)

Mega-City One, 2141 AD. MAX NORMAL was once Dredd’s go-to informer, the Pinstripe Freak who had his ear permanently to the slab, the shuggy-playing legend with a taste for shampagne and the high life, who cruised the streets of the metropolis picking up all manner of info. Forty years later, he’s left much of his nark larks behind him, and he’s now bought up old shuggy hall the Golden Pocket, a pivotal place in his childhood…

OUT NOW: 2000 AD Prog 2133

Welcome to another mind-melting hit of zarjaz Thrill-power!

The response to the all-ages takeover in the scrotnig Prog 2130 has been unanimously positive, and there have been multiple calls for more of this kind of thing (as well as a general desire to see further instalments of Full Tilt Boogie and Finder & Keeper — watch this space, humes!).

With the additional success of the Cor!! Buster Special, we may well be entering a new era of kids’ comics whereby quality is not measured by the plastic toy on the front but by the eye-popping stories inside, galvanising young imaginations everywhere!

Would you like to see a regular all-ages 2000 AD hitting the shelves every month, Terrans? What characters would be ideal to appear within its pages? We’d love to hear your thoughts, so email us via the input@2000ADonline.com address and have your say.

Back to the business at hand, and this prog sees the current Judge Dredd thriller and The Chimera reach their ghafflebette finales,  more Scarlet Traces and Kingmaker action, and Max Normal faces down the psychopathic Earl Twins in the penultimate instalment of How the Max Got His Stripes — be here in seven for the haute couture climax, ya dig, daddio?

2000 AD Prog 2131 is out now from all good newsagents and comic book stores, plus digitally from our webshop and apps! Don’t forget that if you buy an issue of 2000 AD in the first week of its release then postage in the UK is free!
