As ever, Joko-Jargo’s quarterly Regened progs prove a fertile talking point, with positive feedback regarding the May issue filtering through. 2000 AD Prog 2234 is out now! Featuring more new Feral & Foe, plus brand new Judge Dredd, Mechastopheles, Department K and Chimpsky’s Law!

BORAG THUNGG, EARTHLETS – Prog 2234 is OUT NOW!

We’re back, Squaxx, after last week’s all-ages divergence, and there’s no less than four new stories to get your Terran teeth into.

Alongside Feral & Foe, you’ll find within these pages the start of the first full-length series for Regened hit Department K, with art-bot Dan Cornwell joining regular writer Rory McConville, plus the Niemand and Holden droids reunite for Noam Chimpsky’s
first solo strip.

Add to that the return of demonic robot Mechastopheles from the Two Rennies and Boo Cook (if you missed the earlier series, make sure you catch the reprint in Meg 433, out 16 June), and a complete Dredd thriller from Chris Weston, marking the end of a particular aspect of JD history, and it’s a seriously scrotnig line-up!

But it’s been a time of sadness in the 2000 AD community too as we heard the news last month that Dave Evans (often credited as Bolt-01) had died. Editor of 2000 AD fanzines Zarjaz, Dogbreath and Futurequake, he was familiar face at conventions, and as friendly a fan as you could hope to meet.

His unswerving dedication to the small-press scene was huge, and he will be much missed. RIP, Bolt.

CADET DREDD // Lawbreaker!

Mega-City One, 2076 AD. Home to over 800 million citizens, this urban hell is situated along the east coast of post-apocalyptic
North America. On one side is the polluted Black Atlantic, and to the west is the blasted radlands of the Cursed Earth. Overcrowding in the metropolis is rife, unemployment is at ninety per cent, boredom is universal and crime is rampant. Only the Judges — a zero-tolerance police force empowered to dispense instant justice — can stop total anarchy. CADET JOE DREDD — together with his clone-brother Rico — is a rising star in Justice Department, and will one day be its finest officer. Make no mistake, he is the Law!

Script: Colin Harvey / Art: Tom Newell / Colours: John Charles / Letters: Annie Parkhouse

FUTURE SHOCKS // Space Expectations!

Out in the vast reaches of the universe, there are an infinite number of stories waiting to be told. These cautionary tales pass from traveller to traveller in the spaceports and around campfires on distant planets, acquiring the status of legend, their shocking ends a salutory lesson in hubris. Anything is possible in these twisted trips into the galaxy’s dark side. Abandon your preconceptions, and expect the unexpected. Mankind has always sought to find extra-terrestrial life in the galaxy, believing that humanity is not alone. So robots like Expectation are sent into the depths of the cosmos to seek out evidence of alien civilisations…

Script: Cavan Scott / Art: Paul Davidson / Colours: Matt Soffe / Letters: Simon Bowland

ANDERSON, PSI DIVISION // Deep Burn!

Mega-City One, 2143 AD. Psi-Division is a section of Justice Department that specialises in Judges with accentuated psychic
talents — from precognition to exorcism, projection to pyrokinesis, it deals with all manner of paranormal crimes, and is often the city’s first defence against supernatural threats. Cassandra ANDERSON is Justice Department’s top telepath — warm, empathetic and often flippant, she’s not your usual Judge, and she still sees the good in the Big Meg’s citizens. Recently, she’s become aware of incursions by an alien species seeking to bring order to planet Earth. Realising that they’ll attack soon, she’s chosen to head them off in space…

Script: Roger Langridge / Art: Brett Parson / Letters: Simon Bowland

PANDORA PERFECT // Night of the Guffwarbler!

Earth, the far future. While the towering starscrapers and flying cars may make this look like some idealised Utopia, crime is still a major problem, and there’s no felon more wanted than the nefarious Pandora Perez — burglar, safe-cracker, armed bandit and all-round career criminal. Just when the authorities thought that they’d finally managed to incarcerate her, her loyal robot assistant Gort came to her rescue and succeeded in breaking her out of her cell. Despite being a wanted woman, Pandora’s still up to her usual confidence tricks, and now she’s looking to score a big payday by stealing the very rare Guffwarbler…

Script: Rory McConville / Art: PJ Holden / Colours: Len O’Grady / Letters: Jim Campbell

DEPARTMENT K // Stranded!

Mega-City One, 2143 AD. Justice Dept has many divisions within it tasked with dealing with the threats that face the metropolis. The psychic personnel of Psi-Division, for example, are at the forefront in the fight against supernatural foes, while Tek-Div conducts all manner of experiments and develops advanced weaponry. The mysterious DEPARTMENT K is a branch of the latter, whose brief is to tackle interdimensional enemies that are seeking to break through the walls of reality. Headed by Judge Kirby, the team is made up of Mechanismo robot Estabon, alien Blackcurrant and recent intern Afua, but right now they’re stuck, far from home…
