2000 AD Prog 1983 out now!

2000 AD Prog 1983 is out now, Earthlets – with a zarjaz new cover by legendary art droid Glenn Fabry, with colours by Adam Brown!

Historical fantasy Black Shuck: Sins of the Father joins the roster of Thrills this week – a sequel to the Anglo-Saxon warrior’s first appearance back in 2014 between Progs 1891 and 1899, and brought to you once again by the creative combo of double-headed writing team Leah Moore and John Reppion and Zenith artist Steve Yeowell.

Two years have passed since Shuck washed up on the Scandinavian shore of King Ivar’s court, claiming to be his heir, and in teaming up to defeat the trolls that were besieging Ivar’s people, he gained a reputation as a fierce fighter and became a respected leader, taking the throne when Ivar died and marrying his queen, Freydis. But Shuck has a bestial curse that he has to protect his unborn twin sons from…

The same way Sláine is rooted in Celtic mythology, Black Shuck stems from, and is much informed by, the legends of English folklore, particularl y the blackdog stories prevalent in East Anglian history. It adds authenticity to an otherwise fantastical tale, hinting at the mysterious and otherworldly elements that remain unexplained centuries later — your planet is stranger than you know, Terrans!

COVER REVEAL: a new look for Misty!

A classic horror comic from the 1970s that was aimed at young girls is seeing the light of day once again thanks to 2000 AD publisher Rebellion – and we’re pleased to reveal the cover for the collection of strips from Misty.

Rebellion, with the cooperation of rights-holders Egmont, is to reprint Misty content from creators who are also well known for their 2000 AD work, beginning with 2000 AD’s first editor, Pat Mills.

The first volume of Misty material, featuring “Moonchild” by Pat Mills and John Armstrong and “The Four Faces of Eve” by Malcolm Shaw and Brian Delaney, will be published this September.

The cover for the collection uses classic artwork by Misty regular Shirley Bellwood, who sadly passed away earlier this year, with design work by 2000 AD lead design droid Sam Gretton.

First published in February 1978 and intended as ‘2000 AD for girls’, Misty was a weekly anthology horror comic that featured such as “The Sentinels” which saw the years 1978 and 1940 linked via two empty tower blocks, and “Moonchild” about a girl with telekinetic powers.

Over 101 issues between 4th February 1978 and 12th January 1980, Misty’s darker tone, strong visuals, and more sophisticated stories with an emphasis on the supernatural and horror went down a storm with its readers. Fans of Misty have been campaigning for a number of years for the classic strips to be reprinted.
