BORAG THUNGG, YOUNG EARTHLETS – 2000 AD Regened Prog 2306 is OUT NOW!

Joko-Jargo here again, bringing you another special all-ages edition of the Galaxy’s Greatest!

Welcome to the fourth and last Regened issue of 2022, and once more I have a prime selection of Thrills for Terrans of all sizes. Cadet Dredd is joined by his clone-brother Rico at the Mega-City One docks as they investigate a suspicious ship in ‘Undertow’ by Paul Starkey, Silvia Califano and Gary Welsh; the Welsh art-droid also collaborates with writer David Barnett on another Chopper adventure, ‘All For One’, as Marlon Shakespeare learns something about solidarity amongst his fellow juves.

There’s a one-off tale of the unexpected in Future Shocks with ‘The Planet Breakers’ by Karl Stock and Karl Richardson; the twenty-fifth century sport of Gravity Blading makes its debut in the pilot episode of new story Bladers by James Peaty and Leigh Gallagher, introducing Abi Caine’s misfit team the Gravity Bombshells; and there’s humour and carnage as we visit the early days of maniac-for-hire Ulysses Sweet in ‘Psychobaby’.

Yep, it’s the usual Joko mix of the strange, the surreal and the scrotnig! Don’t forget, you can now pick up no less than four zarjaz volumes of Regened stories, collected as trade paperbacks, available from shop.2000AD.com — the ideal Xmas present for every Squaxx. Enjoy, Earthlets!

CADET DREDD // Undertow

Mega-City One, 2077 AD. Home to over 800 million citizens, this urban hell is situated along the east coast of post-apocalyptic North America. On one side is the polluted Black Atlantic, and to the west is the blasted radlands of the Cursed Earth. Overcrowding in the metropolis is rife, unemployment is at ninety per cent, boredom is universal and crime is rampant. Only the Judges — a zero-tolerance police force empowered to dispense instant justice — can stop total anarchy. CADET JOE DREDD — together with his clone-brother Rico — is a rising star in Justice Department, and will one day be its finest officer. Make no mistake, he is the Law!

Script: James Peaty / Art: Leigh Gallagher / Letters: Jim Campbell

BLADERS

It’s the twenty-fifth century, and humanity has spread out amongst the stars. One of its biggest exports is Gravity Blading, the most exciting, successful and lucrative sport in the galaxy. One person who dreamed of being a Blader was Abi Caine, but severe injury forced her out of the trials. However, an unexpected and sizable inheritance has enabled her to re-enter the world of G-Blading, though not as a competitor — she’s buying up the Gravity Bombshells, a team on its last legs after their previous manager proved corrupt. Caine’s got her work cut out if she’s going get the Bombshells ready for the play-offs…

Script: Guy Adams / Art: Paul Marshall / Colours: Dylan Teague / Letters: Jim Campbell

ULYSSES SWEET // Psychobaby

The future. At some point the adult Ulysses Sweet will become infamous across the galaxy as a Maniac-For-Hire — if you have an incredibly dangerous mission that requires someone insane enough to face improbable odds, then Sweet is your man. Prone to acts of violence, and possessing a dubious connection to reality, you hire Ulysses at your peril. Indeed, there’s every chance you’ll make the situation even worse. But when it comes to utter madness, no one can touch him — and this all started as a baby, with a love for explosive weaponry and remembering the words his ruthless criminal mother told him…

Script: Karl Stock / Art: Karl Richardson / Letters: Annie Parkhouse

FUTURE SHOCK // The Planet Breakers

Out in the vast reaches of the universe, there are an infinite number of stories waiting to be told. These cautionary tales pass from traveller to traveller in the spaceports and around campfires on distant planets, acquiring the status of legend, their shocking ends a salutary lesson in hubris. Anything is possible in these twisted trips into the galaxy’s dark side. Abandon your preconceptions, and expect the unexpected. Now, at some point in the future, the human race’s need for resources to solve its energy crisis will mean it will start mining other planets. But what happens when plundering a world goes drastically wrong…?

Script: David Barnett / Art: Gary Welsh / Colours: Gary Caldwell / Letters: Simon Bowland

CHOPPER // All For One

Mega-City One, 2103 AD. Marlon Shakespeare was just an ordinary juve in the vast twenty-second century metropolis, and like most of his generation had little to no prospects, expecting a future of unemployment and boredom. His parents have already embraced the meaninglessness of life in the Big Meg, and spend their days heading eggs into a bucket or washing up. But Marlon was determined to make a name for himself, and under the alias CHOPPER, became a famous scrawler, spraying his tag in the most audacious of places. He was eventually arrested and served an iso-cube sentence, but he’s now out, and taking up skysurfing…

BORAG THUNGG, YOUNG EARTHLETS – 2000 AD Regened Prog 2296 is OUT NOW!

Joko-Jargo here again, bringing you another special all-ages edition of the Galaxy’s Greatest!

Welcome to the third Regened issue of 2022. I’m sure you know the score by now, but if there are any newcomers amongst the Terrans poring through these Thrill-packed pages, then let me offer you cosmic greetings and explain that four times a year my Uncle Tharg passes me the keys to the Command Module — which he doesn’t do lightly, believe me — and allows me to take over 2000 AD, pulling together these bumper progs aimed at a wide audience, with one-off and brand-new stories, ideal for those dipping their toes into the Mighty One’s emerald empire.

This issue is no exception, with Cadet Dredd tackling mutant slavers in the Cursed Earth in Two Tribes, dwarf private detective Renk embroiled in a case involving a princess’s missing parents in the debut episode of a new fantasy series, Simon, Sam and the kids going on a day trip to the centre of Howard’s guts in ‘Splorers, and Department K having an overload of Estabons (don’t miss the forthcoming collection of previous Dept K stories, hitting the shelves in November). All this plus a synapse-searing Future Shock in which the world’s inequalities are solved in a flash (or are they?), and it’s another zarjaz line-up!

2000 AD Regened Prog 2296 is out now from all good newsagents and comic book stores, plus digitally from our webshop and apps! Don’t forget that if you buy an issue of 2000 AD in the first week of its release then postage in the UK is free!

RENK

Crepuscularia is the biggest city in the eastern region, sitting on the edge of the Weeping Desert, home to over fifty thousand beings. It’s a massive melting pot, in which entities of all types live together amongst its narrow streets, and next to anything is bought and sold from the various traders. But if you want someone or something found, and you don’t have the gold to employ a wizard, or the silver for a warrior, then dwarf RENK will take your copper coin. A wily private detective, his diminutive stature belies a dogged determination to locate his quarry, and he knows the vast metropolis like the back of his hand…

Script: David Barnett / Art: Steve Roberts / Letters: Annie Parkhouse

FUTURE SHOCK // Levelling Up

Out in the vast reaches of the universe, there are an infinite number of stories waiting to be told. These cautionary tales pass from traveller to traveller in the spaceports and around campfires on distant planets, acquiring the status of legend, their shocking ends a salutory lesson in hubris. Anything is possible in these twisted trips into the galaxy’s dark side. Abandon your preconceptions, and expect the unexpected. Now, at some point in the future, the gap between the haves and the have-nots will grow ever wider. When the incredibly wealthy Jon Mozes discovers that his fortune has now reached 7.8 quintillion dollars, what is his next step…?

The psychic personnel of Psi-Division, for example, are at the forefront in the fight against supernatural foes, while Tek-Div conducts all manner of experiments and develops advanced weaponry. Headed by Judge Kirby, the team is made up of Mechanismo robot Estabon, alien Blackcurrant and recent intern Afua…

‘SPLORERS // The Big Splash

Once upon a time there were three twentysomething geeks — Simon, Rufus and Clive — who shared what looked like an ordinary semi-detached on a regular suburban street. But Clive had fitted the house with a transdimensional drive that enabled it to cross time and space, although it malfunctioned and they spent years bouncing between worlds. Joined by sceptical new housemate Sam, their travels finally came to an end when they returned to Earth and became responsible adults — Rufus entered politics, Clive became a CEO, and Simon and Sam got together as a couple, eventually having kids. But the adventures didn’t stop there…

After last week’s ghafflebette all-ages takeover courtesy of Tharg’s nephew Joko-Jargo, it’s back to business as (un)usual here in the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic, and alongside the latest instalments of Hope, Fiends of the Eastern Front and Brink, we’ve got two zarjaz new thrillers — Ken Niemand and Tom Foster reunite on the Dredd story An Honest Man, the follow-up to 2021’s A Penitent Man, which saw disgraced former Judge Kyle Asher attempt to reintegrate into Mega-City society; and the Abnett and Bettin droids return for the next chapter in the Bulletopia saga as Dexter and co flee from the Downlode A.I.!

As ever in Tharg’s emerald empire, there’s new books being released all the time, and the publication of the second Thistlebone GN is being marked by a signing at Gosh Comics in London on 14 May from 1-2pm with Tom Eglington and Simon Davis.

Also at Gosh on 11 June Garth Ennis will be signing copies of the new Battle Action Special from 1-2pm alongside artists Mike Dorey, John Higgins and Sally Jane Hurst, and you can catch the Ennis-bot at the Enniskillen Comicfest in N. Ireland too on 18 June!

PROG 2279 out now

BORAG THUNGG, EARTHLETS – Prog 2279 is OUT NOW!

This pulse-pounding prog sees the ghafflebette finale to Judge Dredd thriller The Citadel from the Wagner and Cornwell droids, a story that has seen you Squaxx on the edge of your seats trying to second-guess where it’s going. The emergence of a second Stoney-Face was certainly a narrative curve-ball you weren’t expecting, but does everything about Winterton’s tale add up? Decide for yourselves as you plunge into this Apocalypse War flashback for the last time!

Elsewhere, this issue also features the winners of 2021’s Thought Bubble script and art competitions as Honor Vincent and Lee Milmore collaborate on the Future Shock Relict — expect to see more from these newly constructed creator-bots in the very near future — plus there’s the latest scrotnig instalments of Brink, Fiends of the Eastern Front and Hope.

But everything takes a break for a week as next prog my nephew Joko-Jargo slams back into the Command Module for another all-ages takeover in the shape of 2000 AD Regened, the bumper Thrill-packed specials that dot the year and provide an extra dimension of zarjazosity!
